Nova Forex is a forex trading website operating through novaforex.trading and appears designed to appeal to retail traders, including users in Kenya. But is Nova Forex legit in Kenya, and should Kenyan traders deposit money with the platform?

The Verdict: We do not recommend Nova Forex to Kenyan traders

We do not consider Nova Forex a safe choice for Kenyan traders because we cannot verify it as a broker licensed by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA). Nova Forex does not appear on the CMA lists of licensed dealing or non-dealing online foreign exchange brokers, and we could not verify a Kenyan legal entity responsible for accounts opened through novaforex.trading.

This does not prove that Nova Forex is a scam. It does mean Kenyan traders would be sending money to a platform without the regulatory protections available through a CMA licensed broker. There is very little reason to accept that extra risk.

To maintain recourse under local financial regulations, traders should stick strictly to officially licensed CMA entities.

What is Nova Forex?

Nova Forex operates through novaforex.trading and presents itself as an online forex trading platform. The website uses the Nova Forex name but provides very little public information that allows a Kenyan trader to establish exactly which legal company sits behind the trading service.

That matters more than the design of the trading dashboard. A broker can build a clean account area, display balances and show forex prices fairly easily. The hard part is proving that client money is held correctly, trades are actually executed and withdrawals are backed by real funds.

For a Kenyan trader, the starting point should therefore be the CMA register, not screenshots, Telegram comments, WhatsApp messages or a promoter claiming that the platform pays.

Why we do not consider Nova Forex a legit broker for Kenya

We do not recommend Nova Forex to Kenyan traders for the following reasons:

Nova Forex Is Not On The CMA Forex Broker Register

The Capital Markets Authority maintains public registers of firms licensed to provide online foreign exchange trading services in Kenya.

The CMA currently separates brokers into dealing and non-dealing online foreign exchange brokers. Its licensed firms include recognizable legal entities such as EGM Securities Limited, Pepperstone Markets Kenya Limited, Exness KE Limited, HFM Investments Limited, IC Markets (KE) Limited and Ava Trade Kenya Limited.

The CMA also separately lists licensed dealing brokers. Nova Forex and novaforex.trading do not appear on either list at the time of this review.

CMA Kenya Broker License Verification

Enter a broker name or license number to verify its regulatory status with the Capital Markets Authority (CMA Kenya).

Kenyan traders can also check the CMA register of licensed institutions directly rather than accepting a licence screenshot supplied by a broker or promoter.

This is probably the biggest problem with Nova Forex. If a broker is actively accepting Kenyan retail traders but cannot show which CMA licensed entity is responsible for the account, you have no reason to assume normal Kenyan broker protections apply.

There is also no information suggesting that they are licensed by any other jurisdiction. There are situations when an offshore none CMA regulated broker can be a good option for a Kenyan trader but you should never open an account with a broker that isn’t regulated by any governmental organization at all.

No Clear Kenyan Legal Entity

Licensed Kenyan brokers normally make the legal entity behind the service easy to identify. The company name can then be checked against the CMA register, along with its licence number and in many cases its Kenyan address.

We could not establish the equivalent relationship for Nova Forex. We could not verify a Nova Forex Kenyan company holding an online foreign exchange broker licence or establish that novaforex.trading is an approved website of another CMA licensed broker.

This creates a simple problem if something goes wrong: who exactly owes you the money?

A brand name is not a legal counterparty. A website is not a company. Before depositing, a trader should be able to identify the full company name, company registration details, licence number, registered office and regulator.

Kenyan Forex Brokers Have Client Money Rules

Kenya does not simply issue a broker license and leave firms to do whatever they like with deposits.

The Capital Markets (Online Foreign Exchange Trading) Regulations require licensed brokers to follow rules covering client accounts, handling of deposits and withdrawals and reconciliation of client money.

Among other requirements, the rules provide for client accounts at designated banks and daily reconciliation between client accounts and the broker’s internal ledgers.

This is exactly why regulation matters. It is not a decorative badge placed in a footer. It creates rules around what happens after your money leaves your bank account.

With Nova Forex, we could not verify that Kenyan clients receive these protections.

M-Pesa Does Not Make A Broker Kenyan Or Regulated

Kenyan traders should be particularly careful with brokers that use M-Pesa or local payment methods as proof that they are legitimate.

M-Pesa is a payment system. It is not a brokerage licence.

We recommend that you never deposit money to Nova Forex but if you want to do so despite our warning and Nova Forex or a Nova Forex promoter asks you to deposit through M-Pesa, check the recipient name before sending anything. The payment recipient should make sense when compared with the legal company supposedly operating your trading account.

A payment going to an individual, unrelated merchant, changing till number or unexplained third party should be treated as a serious warning.

Even where a payment processor is legitimate, that does not make the investment platform using it legitimate. Safaricom processing a transaction does not mean Safaricom has checked the broker, audited its accounts or guaranteed that you can withdraw later.

No Verifiable Client Money Protection

One of the first questions I ask when reviewing a broker is boring but very useful: where is the client’s money actually held?

With a regulated broker, there should be a fairly clear answer. With Nova Forex, we could not independently verify a Kenyan designated client bank account, segregated client money arrangement or regulated custodian associated with the website.

Without that information, a balance displayed inside the Nova Forex dashboard should not automatically be treated as cash sitting safely in your name and there is no guarantee that they will let you withdraw your money again.

A dashboard number is just a database entry until the platform demonstrates that the funds behind it exist and allow you to withdraw the money.

No Clear Regulatory Complaints Route In Kenya

If you trade through a CMA licensed company, you at least know the regulated legal entity responsible for the account and which Kenyan authority supervises it.

That becomes very important during a withdrawal dispute.

If Nova Forex freezes an account, rejects a withdrawal or disappears, we could not identify a Nova Forex entity on the CMA broker register against which a Kenyan client could pursue the normal regulated broker complaints process.

You may still have other legal options, but that is a much worse starting position than simply using a licensed broker in the first place.

Very Little & Mostly Negative Independent Track Record

Nova Forex has a very small independent footprint compared with established brokers operating in Kenya. Among the little we found were several scam warnings.

Automated website checking services may show that novaforex.trading has a valid SSL certificate and is not currently detected as malware. That sounds reassuring until you look at what those checks actually mean. SSL tells you that the connection to the website is encrypted. It does not prove the broker has a licence, holds enough money to repay clients or processes withdrawals properly. Nor does it in any way suggest that the broker is not a scam.

A secure connection to an unverified financial company is still a secure connection to an unverified financial company.

Do Not Confuse Nova Forex With Other Nova Brokers

There are several trading businesses online using the word “Nova” in their names. This creates another problem when researching novaforex.trading.

A licence belonging to another Nova branded business does not regulate this website. A positive review for another Nova company does not prove this platform is safe either.

The exact domain matters. The exact legal company matters. The exact licence number matters. Read our article about clone scams to learn more.

If a promoter sends you regulatory information, make sure the regulator itself confirms that the licensed company is connected with novaforex.trading. Do not rely on a company simply having a similar name.

Social Media Profits Are Not Proof

Forex promotions in Kenya often rely heavily on screenshots showing account balances, M-Pesa payments, luxury purchases or dramatic percentage returns.

None of these prove that a broker is regulated.

A trading dashboard can show almost any number its operator wants it to show. A promoter can also receive referral payments for bringing new clients to a broker, giving them a financial reason to focus on deposits rather than risk. Many promoters will lie about being promoters and getting paid by the brand. Never trust to good to be true social media promotions.

Personal Experience

I have reviewed a large number of regulated and unregulated forex brokers, and Novaforex displays numerous textbook signs of a retail financial trap. They stand out as a highly predatory actor, even within an industry as inherently high-risk as retail forex trading.

I would not deposit with Nova Forex.

Already Deposited With Nova Forex?

If you have already funded a Nova Forex account, do not panic and do not send additional money simply because someone tells you it is required before you can withdraw.

Request a withdrawal and keep records of everything connected to the account, including screenshots, emails, WhatsApp conversations, M-Pesa messages, bank details, phone numbers, referral links and transaction references.

If a payment was made through M-Pesa, preserve the original Safaricom confirmation message. If you believe you were deceived, contact Safaricom promptly about available reversal or reporting options and report the matter to the relevant Kenyan authorities.

You can also contact the Capital Markets Authority where the complaint concerns investment or online forex activity in Kenya.

Be particularly wary of anyone who contacts you afterwards promising to recover the money for an upfront fee. Victims of questionable investment platforms are frequently targeted a second time by so called recovery agents.
